KAVU Hometown Hero - Estella Perez

Written by Scylla Visperas

"She loves children and she wants to make a difference in every child that she meets," STAR Director, Stan Hamlyn said.

ESTELLA PEREZ WALKS THROUGH THE HALLS OF THE STAR OFFICE WITH A MISSION.
SHE'S OUT TO HELP VICTORIA CHILDREN THROUGH THEIR STRUGGLES.
AND SHE DOES WITH ANY JUDGMENT.
WHETHER THE CHILD IS FACING TRUANCY CHARGES OR PREGNANT AT THE AGE OF 14 - ESTELLA OPENS HER ARMS AND SETS A PATH FOR SUCCESS.

"We really care and we know things are going to be better. We really get in there and get into the trenches and show them how to make things better. Grab them by the hand, walk them through and do whatever it takes to get them back on track," Perez said.

SHE'S BEEN AN ADVOCATE FOR CHILDREN IN TEXAS THROUGHOUT HER LIFE - AND NOW AT THE AGE OF 76 SHE'S STILL GOING.

"She just everyday of her life goes above and beyond to give what children need," Hamlyn said.

IT'S BEEN SEVEN YEARS FOR ESTELLA AT THE STAR PROGRAM...AND IT ALL BEGAN WITH AN AD IN THE PAPER. BUT NO ONE CASE STANDS ABOVE THE REST - EACH CASE TO ESTELLA WAS SPECIAL IN ITS OWN RIGHT.

"All of them were just monumental. When you've walked off and you know that you've really just helped them help themselves."

ON ANY GIVEN MONTH ESTELLA WILL REACH OUT TO NEARLY 50 FAMILIES -- SOMETIMES MORE.
HER GOAL IS TO REACH THE FAMILY BEFORE THINGS GET ROUGH.

"Life is peaks and valleys that's all it is, just ups and downs...so we certainly can't turn out back on them ever."

ESTELLA PEREZ -- OUR HOMETOWN HERO -- DEDICATING HER LIFE TO CHILDREN IN OUR COMMUNITY.
